Catnip Neutron 01 is a bass guitar prototype I built based on Thomann’s P-style kit. I replaced the body and pickguard with my own ’Neutron’ design and customized the head to fit the design. Everything else is ’off the box’ from the kit.

The bass guitar was born out of a love for instruments as objects. For many artists, instruments are an essential part of their persona, yet their design is often surprisingly unimaginative and focused solely on functionality. My goal was to create an instrument that would perfectly complement the unique style of an eccentric artist like Mononeon, Thundercat, or Bootsy Collins. The bass's shape, decoration, and Catnip identity draw inspiration from the vibrant and diverse aesthetics of K-pop, the futurism of cyberpunk, and the retro style of the 1950s.
